Eligibility and Applications

Eligibility

This fellowship is restricted to U.S. citizens and permanent residents who have completed doctoral-level training (e.g. PhD, PharmD, MD, DrPH or equivalent). Evidence of scholarly productivity in the form of publications is highly desirable.

Review of applications for 2013 positions will formally commence in January 2012. However, strong candidates may submit a curriculum vitae at any time. Preference will be given to external candidates for 2013 positions.

Application

If your background and interests are determined a good fit for the R25T, you will be invited to apply for the appropriate position at www.uacareertrack.com and to submit additional application materials.

Complete applications include the following:

• Curriculum Vitae (include current or planned publications)
• University of Arizona Career Track Application (www.uacareertrack.com)
• Summary of Research Goals (maximum two pages)
• Three Letters of Reference
• Graduate School Transcripts
• UA Biographical Information Form
• Research Proposal (a major part of the application process and typically the final step)

The Research Proposal should be submitted with the help of faculty mentors once applicants have identified them, and must be explicitly related to cancer prevention and control. Research proposals are six pages maximum (not including references) and should include the following: Abstract, Background/Rationale, Specific Aims, Research Design and Methods, Anticipated Results, Future Directions, and a Timeline for Completion.

Some questions to consider as you develop your proposal are:

• How is your research project related to cancer prevention and control?
• How will you apply your skills in cancer prevention and control research?
• Why do you want to be in cancer prevention and control research?

Award Levels

R25T Postdoctoral fellowships fund trainees for up to two years, with a possible extension (typically $48,000 to $60,000/year stipend with health benefits and additional funds for research support, travel, etc).
