The Arizona Cancer Center's GEMSS is one component of the University of Arizona BIO5 Institute’s Mammalian Functional Genomics Facility. Service leaders are Tom Doetschman, Ph.D., Director, and Phil Sanford, Ph.D., Supervisor. The GEMSS provides cancer researchers with unique mouse models of human cancer. These mice have proven to be useful for obtaining a better understanding of human cancers, and they provide animal subjects for pre-testing new therapeutic approaches to cancer prevention, detection, treatment, and cure.

The Arizona Cancer Center, the state’s premier National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center, is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. With primary locations at the University of Arizona in Tucson and the Virginia G. Piper Cancer Center in Scottsdale, the Center has more than a dozen research and education offices distributed throughout the state and 250 physician and scientist members working to prevent and cure cancer. |
