Experimental Mouse Shared Service
A major focus of the Arizona Cancer Center (AZCC) Programs is the identification of new targets and agents to prevent, diagnose, and treat cancer. Valid preclinical testing is a crucial component of that focus. The Experimental Mouse Shared Service (EMSS) has been in existence since 1993, providing investigators at the AZCC with technical and scientific expertise in the use of preclinical mouse models.
We maintain a severe combined immune deficient (scid) mouse colony for AZCC investigators' studies, acquire and utilize other mouse strains as needed by AZCC investigators, aid in the design of in vivo experiments, and expertly and consistently conduct preclinical studies in these mouse models. We provide investigators with the necessary technical expertise to perform these experiments, maintain quality controls for data collection and analysis by a computerized data collection system, and send bi-monthly email updates to investigators.
Finally, we conduct all experiments using statistically relevant guidelines and all experimental data are reviewed by the Biometry Shared Service. All these services are provided at a greatly reduced cost to University of Arizona investigators. In addition, our experience and relationships with investigators facilitates the transfer of drug information and new models between investigators.
