Welcome to the Cancer Biology Graduate Interdisciplinary Program at the University of Arizona. Students in this program may choose areas of special concentration such as biochemistry, molecular and cellular biology, pharmacology or microbiology. Cancer Biology is the comparative study of the biology of normal and cancerous cells and tissues. The discipline includes the study of normal and tumor cell biology and biochemistry, cancer etiology, and biological rationale for cancer therapy and prevention. The curriculum introduces students to knowledge derived from research in the production, properties, and therapy of cancer and assures that students have the necessary background to enable them to do original research. First year students are supported by funds derived from training grants and donations to the Arizona Cancer Center. In subsequent years, students are supported through funds provided by their major professors. An M.S. degree is not offered in this program.
